Tips for meeting new people in person and posting safely.
Meeting in Person
If you decide to meet someone from Neer, please follow these safety guidelines:
- Meet in Public: Always choose busy, public locations for first meetings. Avoid private residences or isolated areas.
- Tell Someone: Inform a friend or family member about your plans, including where you're going and who you're meeting. Share your location with them.
- Stay Sober: Keep a clear head and maintain awareness of your surroundings. Don't leave your drink unattended.
- Trust Your Instincts: If something feels wrong or you feel uncomfortable, leave immediately. Your safety is the priority.
- Verify Their Identity: Consider exchanging verified social media profiles before meeting to confirm their identity.
- Arrange Your Own Transportation: Don't rely on your connection for rides. Control how you get to and from the meeting location.
Posting Safely
Posts can be seen by many people, so think before you share:
- Protect Your Location: Don't post your dorm, room number, home address, or where you are right now. Wait until you've left a place before sharing photos from it.
- Check Your Photos: Look for things that give away personal details, such as ID cards, mail, license plates, or screens.
- Respect Others: Don't share photos or videos of other people without their permission, and never post someone else's personal information.
- Anonymous Isn't Untraceable: Anonymous posts hide your name from other users, not from Neer. Anonymous content is moderated like everything else.
- Report, Don't Engage: If a post or comment targets you or someone else, report it and block the person instead of replying.
