Our Commitment to Your Safety

At Neer, we're dedicated to creating a safe, respectful environment for all users. We've built comprehensive safety features and policies to protect our community.

Privacy Protection

Approximate Proximity Only: Your exact GPS location is never shared with other users. Coordinates are rounded to roughly 100 meters (about 330 feet) of precision before being stored or used to compute distance.
Foreground Only: Location is collected only while the app is open. Neer never tracks you in the background and never requests the "Always" iOS location permission.
Show in Discovery: Controls whether your profile appears in Nearby Users and search, with distance computed from your approximate last-known location. Turn it off to disappear from Nearby Users and search entirely, and back on whenever you want to be found.
Discovery Privacy: Choose Anyone or Friends Only. With Friends Only, only your friends see you in Discover and search, and you only see friends. If either person chooses Friends Only, you must already be friends to see each other there. People who are not friends can still find you from a chat, an event, a post, or a profile they already saved.
Show Location: Separately controls whether an approximate distance appears on your profile. Turning it off hides the distance but does not, by itself, remove you from Nearby Users.
Age & Gender Visibility: Choose whether your age and gender appear on your profile, and limit either one to friends only.
Messaging Privacy: Choose whether anyone can message you or only friends. New accounts start with messaging set to Friends Only.
Activity Status: Turn off Show Activity Status to stop others from seeing when you were recently active.
Anonymous Posts & Comments: You can post and comment anonymously. Other people see "Anonymous" instead of your name and photo. Anonymity is from other users, not from Neer. Your account stays linked to what you post, anonymous content is still moderated, and reports are filed against your real account.
Anonymous Event Hosting: You can host an event anonymously. Your name, photo, profile link, and Pro badge are hidden from other users, and you can still edit or delete your own event.
Anonymous Event Chat: You can join an event chat anonymously, which hides your entire profile from the other members and strips your sender ID out of their notifications. Anonymity is from other users, not from Neer. We keep your real account ID so we can still moderate the chat, and reports about an anonymous participant are filed against their real account.
Blocked Users in Shared Chats: If someone you have blocked is present in a group chat or event chat you are in, we tell you, so you can decide whether to stay or leave. The person you blocked is never told that you blocked them.
Automated Media Screening: Photos and videos uploaded to profile photos and highlights, posts, event images, and group and event chats are screened automatically for explicit content. For videos we also extract still frames and screen those. This is used only to catch policy violating media, never for advertising, profiling, or facial recognition.

Data Security

Encrypted Communications: Messages and data are protected with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest.
Secure Authentication: Phone number verification and secure authentication powered by Firebase Authentication.
No Data Selling: We never sell your personal information to third parties.

User Safety Features

Blocking & Reporting

Block Users: Instantly block any user. Blocked users cannot see your profile, send messages, or view you in discovery.
Report System: Report profiles, messages, events, posts, and comments for inappropriate behavior, spam, harassment, or safety concerns through detailed in-app report categories.
Active Moderation: Our moderation team promptly reviews all reports and takes appropriate action.

Connection Control

Message Requests: With messaging set to Friends Only, which is the default for new accounts, no one can message you until you accept their connection request. Choose "Anyone" in Messaging Privacy to let people message you before connecting.
Unfriend Anytime: Remove connections instantly if you feel uncomfortable or want to discontinue communication.
Message Settings: Silence notifications, delete messages, or restrict who can message you.

Community Guidelines

We expect all users to follow our Community Guidelines. Prohibited behaviors include:

Harassment, bullying, or threatening language
Hate speech, discrimination, or offensive content
Spam, scams, or fraudulent activity
Sexual harassment or unwanted advances
Sharing inappropriate content or explicit material
Impersonation or misleading information

Verification & Trust

Phone Verification: All users must verify their phone number during signup for account security.
Profile Authenticity: We encourage genuine profiles and actively monitor for suspicious activity.

Minors & Age Restrictions

Neer is intended for users 18 years and older. During account creation, users must confirm they meet the minimum age requirement. We take violations of age restrictions seriously and will terminate accounts found to be underage.

If you need help, feel threatened, or want to report a safety concern:

Report In-App: Use the report option on any profile, message, event, post, or comment that violates our Community Guidelines.
Contact Support: Email us at support@neersocial.com
Emergency Situations: If you're in immediate danger, contact local law enforcement immediately.

Our Moderation Team

Our dedicated moderation team reviews reports and takes appropriate action, including warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans for violations. Serious safety threats should be reported to law enforcement immediately.
