Getting Started

Neer Social is a GPS-based proximity social app that helps you connect with people nearby in real-time. Whether you're at a conference, event, or just exploring your area, Neer Social makes it easy to discover and connect with others around you.

Simply download the app and sign up with your phone number and email. You'll need to create a profile with your basic information, interests, and preferences. Make sure to enable location services to get the full Neer Social experience.

Your exact location is never shared. Coordinates are rounded to roughly 100 meters of precision. A single setting, "Show in Discovery," controls whether your profile appears in the Discovery List and search results, with distance computed from your approximate last-known location. You can turn it on or off at any time.

Go to your device Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, find Neer Social, and set it to 'While Using the App' (Neer never uses 'Always'). On iOS 18 or later, you can also go to Settings > Apps > Neer Social > Location. Within the app, open Settings > Location and turn on 'Show in Discovery' to appear in the Discovery List.

You must be at least 18 years old to create a Neer Social account. We require age verification during the sign-up process to ensure a safe community for all users.

You can browse parts of the app with location disabled, but discovering nearby users and appearing in the Discovery List requires location access. You can turn off Show in Discovery at any time, or revoke location permission entirely from your device settings.

During sign-up, you'll be guided through setting up your profile. Add your name, age, bio, interests, and at least one profile photo. A complete profile helps increase visibility and engagement.

You can set your discovery range anywhere from 500 feet to 250 miles using User Filters. The app never shows anyone's exact location, only an approximate distance (e.g., '3 miles away') to protect user privacy. If a user is more than 250 miles away, the app shows their city and state instead of a distance. When that user has "Show as Nearby" enabled, only their state is shown.

Yes! In Settings > Edit Profile, you can add social media profile links to your profile.
